Schenectady, NY and Cheektowaga, NY – May 14, 2026 – The Cheektowaga Town Police Department (NY) is experiencing increased efficiency in its patrols with the help of award-winning Patrolfinder technology.
“My department was looking for a way to improve patrol efficiency,” said Cheektowaga Police Chief Brian Coons. “I thought my officers were patrolling every street in town. Patrolfinder showed me differently.”
The town of Cheektowaga is a suburb of Buffalo, the second-largest city in New York state behind New York City. Cheektowaga PD, a department of about 130 officers, serves a community of about 90,000 people. The department became a Patrolfinder client in late 2025 and experienced improved patrols soon after implementation.
“I now have data showing me where my officers are now patrolling and I can adjust the frequency of the areas I want them to concentrate based on crime patters,” Chief Coons said. “I can set dosage times for hot spots, keeping my officers in the hot spot for the selected time frame. I can also generate reports that we use for our grant funding submittals. We are definitely more efficient with patrols with Patrolfinder.”
Antonio Civitella, President and CEO of Transfinder, the company behind the creation of Patrolfinder, said Cheektowaga PD’s story is a familiar one.
“The No. 1 objection we hear when presenting Patrolfinder for the first time is, ‘We know where to go and go there regularly,” Civitella said. “And the fact is, they’re not.”
When a police department begins implementing Patrolfinder, there routinely becomes an eye-opening moment.
“Once they come on board, we show them how they are not going to certain places regularly. They may cover the ‘arteries’ of a community but staying out of the ‘veins’ of each neighborhood. Patrolfinder solves that problem.”
Patrolfinder is patented technology created by Transfinder, a nearly four-decade old provider of transportation management and logistics software solutions, specializing in routing, scheduling, and fleet optimization.
In 2025, the Schenectady (NY) Police Department (NY) presented before the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services’ Public Safety Symposium that with the help of Patrolfinder, the city saw a drop in street-level crime. Compared to a five year average, the SPD reported the following results:
- 46 percent decrease in motor vehicle thefts
- 25 percent decrease in vehicle crashes
- 16 percent decrease in reported robberies
- 12 percent decrease in confirmed shots fired
- 8 percent decrease in burglaries
