Story Highlights
- Transfinder reached $50 million in revenue in 2025, up 19% from 2024.
- Hardware sales grew 22%, to $11.5 million.
- The Schenectady company now employs 86 people locally.
Schenectady-based software company Transfinder crossed $50 million in revenue last year — a 19% increase from 2024.
Transfinder develops software that helps school districts determine the best school bus routes while tracking fuel consumption, maintenance costs and vehicle replacement, among other information.
But CEO Antonio Civitella said that a main driver of its recent growth has actually been hardware sales — mounted tablets in school buses and RFID card readers with which students check in and out of the bus. That part of the business grew 22%, to $11.5 million, in 2025.
A big reason for that growth is a rise in the number of substitute bus drivers, Civitella said. The mounted tablets in the buses use Transfinder's navigational software, Wayfinder, which helps drivers follow unfamiliar routes and take student attendance.
"They're now on the road because of a significant driver shortage. Because of that, [school districts] are relying on different drivers taking on different routes in the morning, afternoon, midday, when normally it's not their route," he said.
The company also gained 180 clients last year.
Civitella said school districts have hit a point where younger leaders, who are more comfortable with technology, are making decisions. And parents are wanting more information about their children's bus route and schedule.
"The parents are demanding a lot more than they did in the past, so this is where our solutions come in," he said.
The growth spurred the hiring of 13 employees, bringing the company's local total to 86. Transfinder has already hired seven employees in 2026.
Civitella wants the company to hit $60 million in revenue this year. He sees an opportunity to add clients with its law enforcement management software, Patrolfinder, and its fleet logistics and management software, Servicefinder.
"I never take anything for granted. It's difficult every year as we add more, everything becomes more complex. We're super proud to hit that big milestone, but we'll continue pushing ahead," he said.
