CLINTON — Transfinder technology allows school districts the ability to globally track their buses. The software is currently used in six Iowa districts, including the North Scott district.

Now, the Clinton Community School District will employ the technology. Scott Clark, the new transportation director charged with overseeing all bus routes, said it will streamline a transportation system set to take on a larger load of students this coming school year.

"The main goal was to make the routes more efficient," Clark said.

In his office Friday, Clark's department was "fine tuning" Transfinder. As a former bus driver, he appreciates his department's new capabilities.

"It's going to take the tedious work and do a lot of the work for us," Clark said.

Clark estimated 1,200 of the district's 3,800 students utilize the bus system. That equates to just more than 20 routes per day.

In the past, without Transfinder, the district manually created its own routes. With the technology, Clark said the software automatically creates streamlined routes that should make transportation more efficient. His department inputs student addresses, and Transfinder maps out efficient routes based on clusters of students.

"The system 'Geo-codes' them," Clark said. "We get them where they need to be, putting them on a good route."

Transfinder also seamlessly integrates additional students into its program and places them on proper routes.
