Transfinder’s Software Even More Valuable to New York School Districts

Transfinder today announced that, with the passage of a new state law that relieves the mandate for “one seat for every eligible rider,” its routing system is even more valuable to school districts in New York. A new state law now allows school districts to increase the number of students on each bus by using seats once reserved for students who are eligible, but do not ride the bus. This relieves the mandate requiring school districts to provide a seat for every student eligible for transportation, even if that student never rides the school bus. Now school districts can use the average number of students who actually ride the bus to determine its transportation resources and budget.

The company will be showcasing its Attendance Tracking Module, including an App for mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad, at its Exhibit Booth # A38/27 on July 18th as part of the 53rd Annual Conference and Trade Show of the New York State Association for Pupil Transportation (NYAPT) being held at the Saratoga Hilton and Saratoga City Center for July 17-19, 2011.

Antonio Civitella, president & CEO of Transfinder, said, “This allows transportation managers to create greater efficiencies and cost savings in their overall operation. Besides using our software to efficiently route their buses, they can now benefit from the Attendance Tracking Module in our system to determine actual versus potential riders on each bus. Once a ridership trend is tracked and this data is incorporated into our system, it enables a transportation router to apply a ridership ratio that will increase the number of students assigned to a bus.”

According to Civitella, “We also are enabling drivers and attendants to take attendance using a mobile App, which we are developing for use on any mobile device. This will help track attendance each day, resulting in better utilization of each bus. For a district, this means fewer buses on the road, fewer miles traveled, and less fuel usage. Over time, this translates into substantial savings.”

Immediately following the conclusion of the NYAPT conference, Transfinder also is showcasing its solutions at a User Meeting for the company’s New York clients at the Saratoga Hilton.
